The Bartlesby family are a family of Otter folk that hail from a place called Riverton Hollow. It’s a beautiful place somewhat east, somewhat South and a stone’s throw from the Village of Puddlepond. A small river runs through Riverton Hollow, which is a good thing because the Bartlesby family are, after all river otters.
The Bartlesby consists of Ma and Pa Bartlesby and 8 kids. There are some uncles and aunts in the family tree along with some grand parents.
Spruce is the eldest. At a young age everyone said he had the magic in him just like his aunt Margaret. Spruce is a wise cracking straight to the point wild magic sorcerer. When needed he can be the nastiest of enemies but he also can become the best of friends. Even in the face of grave danger he has kept his sense of humor and positivity.
Moonbeam and Sunbeam are twins. This brother and sister pair have followed slightly different paths.
Moonbeam has followed the Druidic teachings and she is a member of the Circle of the Moon.
Sunbeam has followed a slightly different path as he has become a Cleric of the Light domain and follows the Sun god Ra.
Sunbeam is a little more out spoken and when things get rough he has been known to resort to the “laying on of hands” and handing out some physical “holy justice.”
Moonbeam is a lot more laid back. She is the most methodical and laid back member of the Bartlesby romp. She is very spiritual and uses her talents in favor of physicality when faced with a problem.
William or Bill as friends and family call him, had an affinity for music from a young age. His favorite music is a good no nonsense Polka. He carries his accordion pretty much wherever he goes and can play a mean clarinet as well. Bill has the ability to use his action to play a polka so vigorously he will “Polka your eyes” out by casting the blindness spell. His family and really close friends regularly call him Shibilski. William has used his affinity for music to become a Bard, a Polka bard to be exact.
Petunia is similar in many ways to his sister Moonbeam. He is very spiritual and has found his place in the world by becoming a monk and following the Way of the Open Hand. Petunia follows the teaching of “you cannot take my strength as I do not use it.” Petunia is quiet and unassuming until his fury is released and he becomes a whirlwind of whoop ass.
Acorn loves adventuring and the outdoors and she has become quite adept at tracking and traversing the wilds. Acorn has chosen the life of a ranger and often wanders for extended periods of time seemingly out of touch with the family, yet whenever she is needed somehow she shows up.
Bumble is a little different than the rest of the Bartlesby bevy for Bumble is a Red Panda barbarian from the north lands. When he was very young his family turned up missing after a dragon attack on the lands where his family hails from. He was rescued by a merchant who had been in the area and brought him back to puddle pond and was raised by ma and pa as one of their own. The kids treat them like a biological brother but often tease him as he is not the greatest of swimmers.
Boo is the youngest sister and the youngest of the Bartlesbys although no one is sure if she is younger than Bumble. Boo is the one every one watches out for even though it is usually Boo who watches out for everyone else. She is a kind hearted Rogue who will remove your heart if you cross her or do ill to her friends and family. She always seemed to have the uncanny ability to appear out of no where and sneak up on people without their knowing.
Ma and Pa are a mystery in a lot of ways, even to their own kids. The kids have put together small pieces of information they have gathered over the years and realize Ma and Pa may not have always been the quiet stay at home and out of trouble folks they appear to be.
Ma has a sister, Aunt Margaret who was exiled as people believed she was a witch and caused many an issue. No one has heard much from her but the rumor is she is alive and well and living many leagues away from Riverton Hollow.
Pa had a brother, Uncle Jimmy, that he was very close to. Uncle Jimmy was lost at sea in the south and hasn’t been seen since. The kids have been told stories of crazy uncle Jimmy and his adventuring ways.
Cousin Haggis “Rory” Bartlesby. Cousin Haggis has spent much time with the Bartlesby family. No one really knows how he is related exactly but he also has an affinity for music and loves the bag pipes. Haggis has a very heavy “strange” accent and he often tells his stories of the wee little monsters that inhabit the high lands where he lives.
